Sera & Sirius Mint

Warrior of Light | Brother of Light

An abandoned lalafell and a viera who escaped his tribe. The world may be cruel, but in its cruelty lies kindness that allowed the two a second chance at family and love.

Sera Mint

She big lala.

Sera Lore: Past

Birth: At 2 weeks old, Sera was abandoned in Thanalan because of her white eyes which her real parents believed to be an ominous sign. That was when a gleaner from Sharlayan passed by and picked her up. Despite the woman's effort to find Sera's parents, they refused to take her back, citing her as a devil’s child and not theirs. Enraged, said gleaner decided to adopt the child there and then, bringing her all the way back to Sharlayan before naming her Sera, short for Seraphim, as she believed the child to be a gift from angels, and as a big fuck you to Sera’s real parents. Sera also took the woman’s last name, Mint.Childhood: Though the gleaner was now a single mum who could only afford the bare necessities for Sera, the child grew up happily in the city of Old Sharlayan, immersed in the culture of learning. Alas, good times never last. At 10, Sera’s adoptive mother was involved in an accident during her gleaner duty, returning with both legs paralysed. From then on, Sera dropped out of school to work at the library as an assistant, trying her best to earn a living for her and her mother. There, she would spend her time reading all sorts of books while she wasn't busy, falling in love with the idea of the world outside of Sharlayan, which her mother used to gush to her about.
While working in the library, she got along extremely well with her fellow library assistant, a young viera (who was about 5 years older than Sera) named Sirius. He became a brother figure she never had and would pull her onto his lap while he explained different books and concepts she had difficulties understanding. Sirius seemed to have no family around him, prompting Sera to regularly invite him over for dinner after their shifts. This led to Sirius getting along extremely well with the mother-daughter pair. Eventually, Sirius would help to take care of Sera’s mother during her library shifts as well.
However, Sera’s mother’s health continued to deteriorate after the accident, where she eventually passed on peacefully in her bed after 5 years of holding on. Before Sera's mother passed, she gave the homeless viera her last name as well, Mint.
Pre-ARR: Even though Sera lost her mother, she gained a brother, one who promised to worry over and take care of her no matter the circumstances. Though unfortunate, the event marked a new beginning for the siblings who now know the fragility of life itself. Enamored by Sirius' accounts of his old home, the stories her mother told about her travels, and the pile of books she read about the world outside of Sharlayan, Sera would choose to take on the role of an adventurer, starting her travels with her birthplace, Eorzea.

Sera Lore: Trivia

  • Loves sweets but gets cavities easily so she tries her best to indulge less. She particularly enjoys puddings, opting for milk pudding most of the time and leaving caramel puddings only for special occasions once a month. ( Yes, she has a monthly pudding quota. )

  • Has a bad habit of reading at night till she passes out while curled up with her carbuncles.

  • Drinks coffee at night to stay awake reading but it’s actually just tons of milk with a tiny bit of coffee.

  • When traveling without her brother, she gets lonely and summons every single carbuncle she can to accompany her. Seeing Sera curled up on top of one of her bigger mount-size carbuncles while hugging at least one regular sized carbuncle with more than 5 other carbuncles circling her became a regular sight.

  • Dabbles in all sorts of gathering, gardening and crafting but she especially enjoys baking for her friends and feeding them. ( Most of these she learned from Sirius. )

  • Used to wear her hair in buns with glasses for convenience until someone mistook her for a grandma which shocked her so much that she learned to wear contacts and cut her hair short. She won't admit it but she cried a bit to Sirius about it until he braided her hair for her and told her she looked adorable.

  • Is seen as mature and even elegant to most as she often puts up a strong front, being the warrior of light. The one person she will cry and let loose with is her brother.

  • Looks small and weak but is the type that will not hesitate to strike (and strike well) if someone so much as scratches anyone she cares for.

  • Due to working and taking care of the household at such a young age, Sera has always demonstrated maturity beyond her years which sometimes make her seem cold. With her teenage years essentially robbed from her, Sera sometimes struggle to let go and enjoy, only showing her childish side to Sirius. However, it seems like she has been slowly reclaiming what she lost as she gets better at allowing herself to have fun with those she trust. Slowly but surely, the people around her are experiencing her more bubbly side.

Sirius Mint

He soft bunboi.

Sirius Lore: Past

Birth: Sirius came from a tribe known for hunting, where everyone excelled in the craft. That is, until Sirius happened :’)
As the leaders of the tribe, Sirius' parents had exceedingly high expectations of him. However, he was born a gentle child, one who preferred to gather herbs on his hunting trips instead of hurting animals. Even when forced to hunt, his aim was abysmal and it was painfully obvious that he had absolutely no talent for it. Despite this lack of talents, his parents would insist on bringing him to hunts where he would be perpetually shamed by his entire tribe. His parents were just as bad if not worse, often abusing him verbally and sometimes physically.
Even then, he continued to be a gentle child, never retaliating or avoiding the nightmare hunting trips. Instead, he would often use the trips to learn about the flora and fauna in the forest from the less intimidating elders, gathering a wealth of information on the terrain.
Turning-point: At the age of 12, Sirius met a hyuran toddler who got lost in the forest. Noticing some cuts on the boy (possibly from tripping), Sirius immediately tended to his wounds with the herbs he could forage in the forest. It was a surreal experience for the viera who never knew other races existed. In fact, he would have spent ages mulling over the toddler’s lack of fluffy long ears if he was not urgently treating the boy’s wounds. When the toddler’s father finally found him, Sirius was shocked to see how worried the father was, along with the incessant ‘thank you’ he received from the father-son pair. Out of gratitude, the father offered Sirius a visit to their village and house for a meal anytime, telling Sirius to head in the direction of the brightest star in the night sky to find their village.
That was the beginning of a change in Sirius. He, who was always willing to endure his lifestyle, no longer felt chained. He was not the useless child his tribe made him out to be, because he had the ability to help someone. The way his parents treated him was not the end all be all, for there exist parents that worry and dote on their children. And most importantly, his tribe was not the entire world. There were other beings who communicated the same way they did, other settlements and all sorts of possibilities out there.
After the revelation, Sirius eventually made the decision to part with his tribe, leaving all he knew behind him, including his very own name. With this new beginning, he headed to the aforementioned village, giving thanks to the father-son duo that changed his life. There, he pleaded for a destination he can head to in order to learn more about this new world. The answer he got was a simple one: Old Sharlayan, a city where knowledge is celebrated and shared, where words hold more power than bows.
Future: That fateful moon, a lone viera arrived in the city of Sharlayan, introducing himself as Sirius, akin to the bright star in the night sky that led him out of his tribe. There, he found a job working in the library, free to embrace his newfound knowledge of the world and eventually gained a new family.

Sirius Lore: Trivia

  • Sirius has a boyfriend teehee

  • Overprotective brother, lowkey siscon teehee

  • Acknowledging his inability to engage in combat as a hunter, he has tried to learn healing magicks instead, realising he was decent at it.

  • Moral of the story: Sirius is only suited for healing and protecting his loved ones.

  • Unbeknownst to himself, Sirius can be quite possessive in a romantic relationship. Especially when having a fellow viera as his partner, Sirius unconsciously fear they would deem him unworthy the way his tribe did, causing them to leave him. Though he believed himself to be over this self-deprecating way of thinking, it seems his experience has ingrained it into him more than he would like to admit.

  • As Sirius is so used to caring for others with all his heart, he actually has little to no idea how to handle being pampered by anyone other than his sister. If someone were to try and pamper him, his response would be to do the same back for that person instead.

Siblings Lore: Past

Past: The two first met as fellow assistants working in Old Sharlayan's coveted library, The Noumenon. Due to Sera's young age and inexperience, she was made to shadow a colleague for the first week. Fortunately, the colleague was an extremely understanding male viera who guided her through every section of the spiraling bookshelves. Amazed by the viera’s familiarity with the knowledge surrounding her and fueled by her inquisitive nature, Sera proceeded to bombard her colleague with questions. As conversations flowed with ease, Sera and Sirius immediately clicked and formed a sense of kinship. Whenever they had a break, the two would share about the new books they were reading, exchanging insights. To facilitate sharing of excerpts from the books themselves, Sirius suggested for Sera to sit on his lap so they could read together while he explained concepts she couldn’t grasp well. As naturally as it happened the first time, Sera continued to claim Sirius’ lap and time, enjoying his company during and after work hours. Within weeks, the two became inseparable best friends, sharing about their lives, hobbies and ambitions, no longer bound by the topics of books alone.Upon discovering Sirius’ lack of family, Sera also made an effort to invite him over for dinner whenever it was possible, introducing him to her then ill mother. As the years went by, Sera and Sirius’ relationship deepened to one akin to family. During the years before Sera’s mother passed on, Sirius would even help take care of her when Sera had shifts alone at the library.ARR Onwards: After the unfortunate passing, Sirius gracefully accepted the last name of Mint, cementing his status as Sera’s brother. As Sera set out for her adventure to Eorzea, Sirius followed along, providing her with his warm company. Sirius would settle wherever Sera’s travels bring her, making sure she had a safe place to return to after her adventures around the area. Though their place of settlement constantly changed, they were happy. For both of them, home was where the other was.

Siblings Lore: Trivia

  • While Sera is out adventuring, Sirius enjoys tending to both their gardens and helping Sera gather various materials. In a way, Sirius acts like a gathering retainer for Sera.

  • Though both of them excel in crafts and gathering, Sera tends to prefer crafting while Sirius prefers gathering as it reminds him of his days foraging through the forests while traveling to Sharlayan.

  • When it comes to the culinary arts, Sirius enjoys cooking more while Sera is a bigger fan of baking due to her sweet tooth. However, this makes little difference as they always do both together.

  • Sera’s new hairstyles were styled by Sirius. Initially, she had a braid across her head but she wanted to match with Sirius better, opting to move her braid to the side of her head. Since Sera’s usually on the go and busy as the Warrior of Light, her hairstyle is a much more simplified version of Sirius’ that she can do up in a few minutes. She also cherishes her hair ribbon a lot because it was a gift from her brother.

  • After Sera’s first time sitting on Sirius’ lap, the siblings grew extremely fond of the arrangement. To Sera, Sirius’ lap was her ultimate safe space and she now has a habit of sitting on someone’s lap only if she trusts them.

  • Both Sera and Sirius are extremely good at taking care of others but tend to forget about themselves. They are often found buried nose deep in tomes, forgetting their meals. However, they will never forget to tell the other to eat. In a sense, they function the best as a unit.

  • The siblings struggled hard during Sera's time in Ishgard and The First. During the former, Sirius was unable to enter Ishgard to visit his sister, resorting to sending secret letters over while praying for her safety daily. When Sera was pulled to The First, she tried her best to head back to The Source whenever possible, even getting Feo Ul to visit Sirius' dreams to communicate her safety to him. Even then, there was little that could comfort Sirius as he knew his sister was facing dangerous circumstances in another world and might never come back someday. Similarly, Sera had a lot of difficulties being separated from her only family for such long periods and lacking a home she could go to. However, some would say it was for the better as she learned to be more confident and less dependent on Sirius after these adventures.
